What can research tell us about how to be effective clinicians?

What kinds of trauma predict clinical problems? Are there more or less clinical problems than we would expect in a population? Can we demonstrate that our clinical interventions are effective? Clinical Psychology is a broad area, and these publications reflect some of the range of clinical issues. In some of these studies the empirical questions are related to factors in the etiology or epidemiology of clinical problems, while in other instances the effectiveness of an intervention is the focus.

How have Davidson students studied problems in Clinical Psychology?

What is the psychological profile of psychiatric patients with comorbidities? What elements of professional police work pose the greatest psychological vulnerability for law enforcement officers? Does the published research literature provide quantitative evidence for the effectiveness of an intervention model? What are significant risks for clinical problems in college students? Davidson students have collected data in psychiatric hospitals, outpatient mental health clinics, and in community nonprofit agencies- besides analogue studies with college students- in trying to answer those questions.
