Information for
Incoming Students

Majoring in Political Science: The political science major consists of ten courses. One course must come from each of the four subfields. One is our methods course. One must be a seminar. Students have a great deal of flexibility in how they structure the major.

Getting Started: We offer four introductory courses at the 100 level, any of which can be a good beginning point in the major. We usually offer one W course each semester, which also counts toward the major. Note that several of the 200-level courses are open to incoming students as well. The catalogue lists any prerequisites for specific courses.

Deciding on a Major: You do not need to declare a major until the end of your sophomore year. However, taking at least one course in a possible major during your first year is a good way to see if you are truly interested in the material as it is presented on the college level.

Special Opportunities: We offer a Davidson in Washington program ever summer. We also encourage our students to study abroad. You may transfer up to four off-campus course back to Davidson as major credit. In the fall of 2007, we plan to offer a Davidson in Peru program.
