Ruskin Cooper is a native of Savannah, Georgia. He holds degrees from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, the University of South Florida, the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His teachers include James Ambrose, Lydia Frumkin, Jacques Abram, Leonard Hokanson, Hartmut Höll, Rainer Hoffmann and John Salmon. His doctoral dissertation on the piano music of Ludwig Schuncke received the Outstanding Dissertation Award at UNCG and was published in German and English in 1997. Since 1997, he has taught at Davidson College. A CD of American piano music is available on Centaur Records, and he recently finished a new recording of music of Schuncke and Schumann.
