Dr. Raymond Sprague is Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities at Davidson College. He conducts the Concert Choir and the Chorale as well as teaching courses in music history. He came to Davidson from the University of New Orleans where he was the Virginia Koch Professor of Music, Associate Chair of the Music Department, and Director of Choral Activities. He received a BA from Williams College, a MM in theory and composition from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and a DMA in choral literature and performance from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Previous appointments also have included music instructor at the Albuquerque Academy in New Mexico, Director of Choral Activities at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana, and Director of Music at Saint Charles Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans. Dr. Sprague was also the founder of the Louisiana Vocal Arts Chorale, and served as its Artistic Director for seven years.
He has written reviews and articles for The Choral Journal, has editions of treble choral music in print through Roger Dean, Lawson Gould, and Gentry Publications, and is active as a clinician and adjudicator in the southern and Midwestern United States. A member of the College Music Society, he is also a life member of the American Choral Directors Association and is a past-president of the Louisiana Chapter of that organization. His biography currently appears in Who's Who in American Music: Classical, Marquis's Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Marquis's Who's Who in Entertainment, and the British publication, Men of Achievement. In addition, he was listed in the 1994, 1998, 2002, 2004, and 2005 Who's Who Among American Teachers. In fall of 1999, Dr. Sprague made his Carnegie Hall debut under the auspices of Mid - America productions.
