Anjan Mukherjee '09
Anjan was born in Calcutta, India, but has lived in Chevy Chase, Maryland, for a long time. He has been involved in music for nine years now. He first started out playing piano, then played the flute for four years in middle school and high school band. In his junior year of high school, he switched to playing percussion in the school orchestra as well as the jazz ensemble. He was also involved in a school-sponsored jazz combo which regularly played around the Washington, D.C., area. He also took IB Music in high-school, a two-year course that covered music theory as well as music history.
At Davidson, he has been playing percussion in Orchestra since his freshman year, and in the Jazz Ensemble since his sophomore year. He has been requested to play for various events outside of Davidson as well (involving groups such as the Brass Quintet). Although he has already declared his music major, he is still thinking about the possibility of a French minor. After Davidson, he hopes to go on to graduate school (possibly law), but wants to keep playing music throughout his life. He most enjoys playing jazz music, and has started a jazz quartet as Davidson, which meets informally. He also has a rock band, which meets informally as well. In his spare time, he fiddles around on the guitar.
He has one younger brother, Anuj (15 years old), and his parents are Amitabha and Ranjana Mukherjee. He is very happy that the music major allows him to further explore a subject he greatly enjoys.
